The surgery to remove one or both ovaries in women. It is called a unilateral oophorectomy if only one ovary is removed, and a bilateral oophorectomy if both ovaries are removed. This procedure can be done for a variety of medical reasons, such as treatment for cancer, endometriosis, severe ovarian cysts or other conditions affecting the ovaries.
