GnRH agonist
The abbreviation for gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist. It is a drug analogue of this hormone which,  after an initial phase of pituitary stimulation, desensitises the receptors for gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) and reduces the secretion of LH (luteinising hormone) and FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone). In assisted reproduction, it is used to control pituitary function and prevent premature ovulation during controlled ovarian stimulation. It is also known as GnRHa.
