gametogenesis
Process of formation of gametes from their germ cells. During this process, the number of chromosomes is reduced from diploid (46) to haploid (23) through meiosis. While maturation of the male gamete occurs through the mechanism called spermatogenesis, maturation of the female gamete occurs with ovogenesis.

NOA shows highly heterogeneous clinical manifestations depending on the affected stage of gametogenesis.
In summary, our findings suggest that aneuploidies in the human embryo are mainly the consequence of the inheritance of an abnormal pool of transcripts, which could cause either a meiotic error during gametogenesis or a mitotic error during the first cleavages of the embryo development.
