blastocyst
A stage of embryonic development reached between the fifth and sixth day after fertilisation. Structurally, it is bounded by an outer cell layer called the trophectoderm (which will give rise to the placenta), an inner cell mass (which will form the fetus), and a fluid-filled central cavity called the blastocoel; it represents the ideal window for uterine implantation or embryo biopsy.
