The outer layer of cells in a blastocyst, a structure that forms during the early development of an embryo. The trophectoderm plays a crucial role in the implantation of the embryo into the uterus and eventually gives rise to the placenta and other supportive tissues necessary for fetal development. It is also known as trophoblast.
