Surgical removal of the uterine cervix, primarily indicated as a fertility-sparing procedure in early-stage cervical cancer or during pregnancy. Simple trachelectomy involves the removal of the cervix alone, whereas radical trachelectomy includes the resection of the parametrium and upper vagina, and is systematically associated with a pelvic lymphadenectomy. A prophylactic uterine cerclage is routinely performed, and the procedure can be approached vaginally, laparotomically, laparoscopically, or robotically.
