Congenital structural anomaly characterized by an intrinsic alteration in the morphological development of an organ, part of an organ, or a larger anatomical region. It originates during embryogenesis due to a failure in the intrinsic developmental potential of the tissue, and its etiology can be genetic, environmental (teratogenic), or multifactorial.
