circulating DNA
Double- or single-stranded DNA molecules found outside cells, detectable in body fluids such as blood or urine. In clinical contexts, it is primarily referred to as cell-free DNA (cfDNA). In pregnant women, increased levels of cell-free fetal DNA occur, which is essential for non-invasive prenatal testing.
