GnRHa
The abbreviation for gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist. It is a pharmacological analogue of gonadotropin-releasing hormone which, following an initial phase of pituitary stimulation, desensitises the receptors and reduces the secretion of LH and FSH. In assisted reproduction, it is used to control pituitary function and prevent premature ovulation during controlled ovarian stimulation.
