septic abortion
A spontaneous or induced abortion complicated by a severe uterine infection, usually associated with bacterial colonisation during or after the abortion process. Also known as an infected abortion, it is characterised by fever, pelvic pain and purulent discharge. If left untreated, it can progress to systemic sepsis or shock.
