single-parent family
A type of family in which there is only one parent who assumes responsibility for the care of one or more children.  In the context of assisted reproduction, a woman can become a single mother through techniques such as artificial insemination or in vitro fertilisation, which allow her to conceive a child without the need for a male partner to be present at the conception process.
